German Measles (Rubella)
SYMPTOMS. First signs may be malaise, fever, swelling of lymph node behind
the ear and in the back of the neck, sore throat and a slight cold. Later
signs may include a flushed face, and a rash on the face and neck. This
light rose-colored rash will spread quickly to the trunk and extremities.
CAUSES. It is a mild viral disease but if it is contracted in the early
months of pregnancy, it can have serious effects. It may cause congenital
defects in the child, cause stillbirth or abortion.
TREATMENT. Treatment is not usually needed.
.All children should be vacinated to prevent German measles.
